A Journey of Discovery

My passion is fibre - specifically, the marriage of cloth, stitch, and texture - and the translation of images employing that medium.  While my background is in traditional quilting, my work has evolved far beyond the realm of standard quilting materials.

Now any fabric is fair game: silk, organza, linen, velvet, cheesecloth, burlap. . . . and I like to add paint, foil, ink, and glue to get the look and feel I want.  I might find that an image demands piecing or appliqué or raw edge collage, and I let the piece speak to me.  There is no use in telling it how I envision the finished work; it must evolve of its own accord.  So every foray into the world of creativity is a journey of discovery.

The postcard above was created for and sold at a sale at Ottawa City Hall to benefit the Canadian Cancer Society.  Using cotton fabrics with stamping, foiling, and quilting, it is one of my works that employs images from nature.
